I received a LARQ PureVis 25-ounce water bottle for free to test it out, and in the hope that I would review it on my blog. I am also an affiliate for LARQ and may receive money if you click on a link and purchase the product (please see full affiliate disclosure below). All opinions are my own and I only write about products I believe will benefit my readers.

I was training for a huge backpacking trip, which meant loading myself up with 42 pounds and driving 2 hours to State Parks with big climbs. Of course, I was doing this in the middle of summer in the southeastern US. On one of my trips, I found myself in trouble less than 5 miles into an 11-mile hike because the weather was hotter than expected.
I had to reroute to the campground to get water from their spigots because the 3 liters on me were already gone. After topping up, I headed back to the car because it was 104 degrees, and moving forward wouldn’t be smart.
The sad thing is that I passed 2 streams along the way but didn’t have a water filter and dirty bag because I never bring those on a day hike. If I had some way to purify the water, I could have stopped the situation before it got out of hand.
Two weeks later, I learned about LARQ bottles.
What is a LARQ Water Bottle?
LARQ makes reusable bottles that have a UV-C light built into the lid for purification. The light removes 99.99% of bacteria, giving you clean water on the go.
You can use normal mode which applies 60-seconds of light, or Adventure Mode which treats the water for 3 minutes.
The bottles are BPA and phthalate free and can be charged via a USB charger making it convenient on the road or at home. I recently used mine on a road trip and loved how convenient it made grabbing water on the go and keeping it cool.
Where Can the Bottle Be Used?
I really like my LARQ Pure-Vis insulated bottle. Recently, I drove 2 hours to the Blue Ridge Parkway, then spent 3 hours along the parkway viewing the fall colors before heading back home. That’s a long day.
It’s difficult to get on and off the parkway, yet there’s no place along the stretch of road I was on to stop for food or water. Luckily, there’s a picnic area with a lovely stream and I had the LARQ.
I filled it with water, screwed on the cap, then pressed and held the button at the top to activate Adventure Mode. Three minutes later, I had pure water.
It was surprising how good the water tasted. I expected to taste metal from the bottle but instead enjoyed fresh tasting water. This is coming from a backpacker that’s had mountain spring water.
The water also remained cool in my car for over six hours, and I’m sure it would have stayed that way for the entire 24 hours stated in the literature.
While the insulated bottle is a bit heavy for hiking, I could see myself using the lighter LARQ Movement on longer day hikes. To this day, I wish I had one with me on that fateful 11-mile hike in 104-degree heat.
As a hiking and backpacking guide, I would also recommend the Movement for base camping, car camping, or on shorter backpacking trips.
Who is LARQ?
LARQ’s goal is to simplify access to healthy, sustainable hydration. Their hydration products are designed to improve water quality, taste, and convenience. What I love is they offer a more sustainable option to single-use plastic bottles on the road or while hiking.
In addition, I’m all about companies that give back and LARQ donates 1% of all proceeds to fund projects that bring safe drinking water to those that need it most around the globe.
What Products are Available?
There are 2 different purification products, PureVis, and LARQ Movement Bottle.
LARQ Bottle PureVis
The PureVis features double-wall vacuum insulation to keep your water cold for 24 hours, and hot for 12 hours. I can vouch that cold water stays cold for an entire day in your car with the sun beating down on it.
The PureVis comes in both 17 and 25-ounce sizes.
The 17-ounce bottle weighs 13.5 ounces, and the 25-ounce bottle weighs 17 ounces. Not bad for a well-insulated bottle with a built-in purification system.
LARQ Bottle Movement PureVis
The LARQ Bottle Movement PureVis (non-insulated) is lighter-weight due to its single-wall construction. It’s not insulated, but with the lower weight, it’s perfect for hydrating on a long hike.
The Movement comes in 24 and 32-ounce sizes.
The 24-ounce bottle weighs 10.7 ounces and the 32-ounce bottle weighs 12.5 ounces. That’s a decent weight for the size when you consider it’s a water bottle and purification system in each unit. Remember, it’s replacing a water bottle, filter, and dirty bag.
LARQ also makes LARQ Bottle Filtered which, as described, has a filter instead of UV light. You can purchase a PureVis Cap to add purification to your filtration bottle. The advantage I see is cleaning water with sediment and other “chunks” you want to remove while also providing an extra level of purification.
Would I Recommend the LARQ Bottle?
I truly believe this is a great product. I’ve received items before that were lackluster, but the LARQ is a solidly built product that delivers. Mine has already found several uses.
It’s going to be my steady road-trip companion, accompany me through airports, and probably will wind up living in my car. I will likely purchase the lighter Movement for long day hikes.
I was truly shocked at the clean taste of the water, and ease of use. I’ve recommended it to friends and family that travel frequently.
An additional benefit is that I’m drinking more water these days. I’ve always been bad about drinking enough water, and the LARQ is so handy that I always have clean water at my side. It’s made a huge difference in my water consumption.
